Overview
Google Search and Display Ads have character limits on the names of company, organizations, and specifically Dealerships. Fullpath will use a shortened Dealership Name in ads where the name cannot exceed 25 characters. There are some automatic name shortening conventions we use when setting up a new account however you may always discuss this with your CSM to determine the best name and configurations for your account.
Navigation
Setting up the Dealership name, shortened name, and in some cases, extra short name take place inside the Digital Advertising General Settings.
Rules and Configurations
According to Google, the shortened name of a business must be 25 or less characters. There are even some types of ads that only support an extra short name, which must be less than 20 characters. The shortened and extra short name fields will only appear in the settings if your Dealership name exceeds 25 characters. You will not see this option inside the Dashboard if it is not relevant to your Dealership.
Fullpath will automatically apply certain conventions to name which exceed 25 characters. Some examples of these conventions include:
- Dashes are removed
- “Automotive” becomes “Auto”
- Permutations of the words “Chrysler”, “Dodge”, “Jeep”, “Ram” become “CDJR”
- Permutations of the words “Chrysler”, “Dodge”, “Jeep” become “CDJ”
- Mercedes-Benz becomes Mercedes
- Volkswagen becomes VW
