Overview
In order to further personalize emails and SMS created using a custom template or a custom campaign, you may want to use merge tags in the text. Merge tags are one way to insert dynamic content into your engagement, like someone's name, the vehicle they currently own, or the same of a Sales person at the Dealership.
When you insert a merge tag into your content, we'll replace the tag with the content stored in the corresponding merge field field. For example, you can use the {{recipient.first_name}} merge tag to display each Shopper's first name where the merge tag was placed.
Merge Tags in Emails and SMS
- You may use merge tags in both the subject line and body of email templates in Audience Activation.
- You will know if you have used a correctly formatted merge tag, because you will immediately be able to preview the email with the merge tag to the right side of the email editor:
Merge Tags
The following merge tags may be used when duplicating and editing existing email templates or creating new custom templates. The merge tags must be copied and used exactly as written below with no modification whatsoever.
- {{recipient.first_name}}
- {{dealership.name}}
-
{{dealership.phone_number}}
-
{{dealership.address}}
-
{{dealership.website_homepage_url}}
- {{dealership.sales.representative.name}}
- {{dealership.sales.representative.title}}
- {{customer.last_transaction.vehicle.equity_payout_formatted}}
- {{customer.last_transaction.vehicle.make}}
- {{customer.last_transaction.vehicle.model}}
- {{customer.last_transaction.vehicle.year}}
- {{customer.last_transaction.vehicle.vin}}
Always make sure you test thoroughly when using merge tags. An errant capitalization or space in merge tags is often the reason why the campaign is not running or throws an error.
